9 Daily Tips for Managing Anxiety
Did you wake up feeling anxious today? We have all been there! Here are some effective tools and strategies to help manage anxiety:
1. Validate your feelings
They come from somewhere and they are trying to tell you something. The whole range of emotions is completely normal and necessary and will pass with time.
Deep breaths can be calming and help encourage your body back to a state of calm. Here's an article on how to do it.
3. Mindfulness meditation
These practices help to ground you to the moment and improve focus and mood. Try to identify one thing you can see, touch, hear, see, and taste. It will reorient you to the current moment. Here's an article on how to do it.
4. Try radical thinking
This is the opposite of what your anxiety is trying to tell you. We often think of the worst-case scenario when feeling anxious. Try asking yourself “What if the best possible outcome happens? What if everything turns out better than I could have ever imagined?”
5. Physical activity.
Exercise, such as walking, yoga, or any other form of movement, can help reduce anxiety.
6. Schedule an anxiety treatment session.
Get professional mental health support or even reach out to someone you trust and talk through your fears rather than sitting with them by yourself.
7. Progressive muscle relaxation.
Tensing and then slowly releasing different muscle groups can help reduce the physical tension associated with anxiety. Here's an article on how to do it.
8. Self-care.
Engage in activities you enjoy and that help you relax, such as reading, listening to music, or taking a bath.
9. Limit stimulants.
This is definitely not the best day for that extra cup of coffee or energy drink, as it’s going to exacerbate symptoms.
“Worrying about outcomes over which I have no control is punishing myself before the universe has decided whether I ought to be punished.” — Sherry Thomas
Deep breaths. The moment will pass. You’ve got this.
